Regular Season Round 7: Algodoneras - Barreteras 77-78

The most exciting game of round 7 in the LMBPF took place in Torreon. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked Algodoneras (1-6) to third ranked Barreteras (3-4) 78-77 on Saturday evening. Barreteras forced 28 Algodoneras turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Algodoneras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Rosaura Guardiola (180-91) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Puerto Rican point guard Kiara Quinones-Noa (165-93) helped adding 25 points. At the losing side American guard Brittany Byrd (175, college: UIC) responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds and Alejandra Urrutia scored 16 points. Barreteras have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Mexcaltecas and Racers. Newly promoted Algodoneras keep the fifth position with six games lost. Barreteras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Algodoneras will play again at home against the league's second-placed Barreteras (#2) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
