Regular Season Round 3: Carolina - Ponce 93-88

Gigantes used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Juana Diaz 93-88 on Friday night. Leones were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 27-21 charge of Gigantes, which allowed them to win the game. They made 25-of-32 free shots (78.1 percent) during the game, while Leones only scored seven points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was naturalized American Wil Martinez (188-92, college: Fairmont St.) who scored 35 points (!!!). American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: NC State) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Ivorian center Deon Thompson (204-88, college: UNC, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 20 points and 8 rebounds and Dominican Victor Liz (193-86) added 12 points and 6 assists respectively. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gigantes will meet at home Atleticos (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Leones will play against Piratas in Quebradillas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
