Regular Season Round 12: Mayaguez - Arecibo 73-104

An interesting game for Capitanes (7-3) which played road game in Mayaguez against second-best Indios (6-6). First ranked Capitanes had an easy win 104-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Indios. Capitanes had a 33-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. Capitanes players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Indios were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!) and American forward Davon Jefferson (204-86, college: USC) who added 17 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was naturalized American Melsahn Basabe (201-92, college: Iowa) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Christian Pizarro (180-95, college: Miami Dade CC) scored 17 points. Five Capitanes and four Indios players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Capitanes have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-3 record. Indios at the other side keep the second place with six games lost. Capitanes will play against Atleticos (#6) in San German in the next round where they are favorite. Indios will have a break next round.
