Very expected game in Arecibo where 6th ranked Atleticos (3-9) were defeated by first ranked Capitanes (8-3) 90-80 on Friday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Capitanes made 9 blocks. Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) fired a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international swingman David Huertas (196-87, college: Ole Miss) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Capitanes' coach Rafael Cruz used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Paris Bass (203-95, college: Detroit) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and Nigerian power forward Alade Aminu (207-87, college: Georgia Tech) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Capitanes. They maintain first place with 8-3 record. Atleticos lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Capitanes will meet at home league's second-placed Piratas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Atleticos will play against the league's leader Vaqueros (#1) and hope to secure a win.
