Regular Season Round 14: Quebradillas - Arecibo 106-99

Top ranked Capitanes (8-4) recorded its fourth loss in Quebradillas on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Piratas (7-4) 106-99. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Capitanes. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Piratas shot 63.3 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 61.9 percentage. Piratas looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Tu Holloway (183-89, college: Xavier) who scored 21 points and 9 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The other American import forward Will Daniels (202-86, college: URI) chipped in 20 points. Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) produced 29 points and 7 assists and Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-87, college: Texas A&M) added 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Four Piratas and five Capitanes players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Capitanes at the other side still keep top position with four games lost. Piratas are looking forward to face Mets (#4) in Guaynabo in the next round. Capitanes will have a break next round.
