Regular Season Round 18: Fajardo - Mayaguez 103-94
Date: August 17, 2021
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Cariduros (7-5) beat one of their biggest challengers Indios (8-8) in Fajardo 103-94 on Tuesday. Cariduros made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. Strangely Indios outrebounded Cariduros 41-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. Cariduros looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Victor Rudd (206-91, college: S.Florida) notched 26 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and Dominican guard Rigoberto Mendoza (187-92) supported him with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Five Cariduros players scored in double figures. Even 28 points and 5 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) by American Brian Conklin (201-89, college: St.Louis) did not help to save the game for Indios. International swingman Justin Reyes (193-95, college: STAC) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Indios' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cariduros have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains fifth position with 7-5 record. Indios at the other side keep the fourth place with eight games lost. Cariduros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Indios will play against the league's second-placed Piratas (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
