Regular Season Round 25: Arecibo - Guaynabo 112-111

Third-ranked Mets (8-11) gave a tough game to first ranked Capitanes (15-4) in Arecibo on Monday. Capitanes managed to secure only one-point victory 112-111. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mets. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Mets helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 assists for the winners and international forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Capitanes' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Panamanian forward Tony Bishop (201-89, college: Texas St., agency: 011 Sports) responded with 29 points and 9 rebounds and American-Dominican forward Angel Nunez (203-91, college: S.Florida) scored 26 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-4 record. Newly promoted Mets keep the third position with 11 games lost. Capitanes are looking forward to face Indios (#4) in Mayaguez in the next round. Mets will play at home against Grises and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
