Regular Season Round 5: Leones - Reales 84-80
Date: August 31, 2021
Rather predictable result in Santo Domingo where third ranked Leones (8-5) defeated 7th ranked Reales (4-7) 84-80 on Tuesday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Leones had a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was swingman L.J. Figueroa (198-98, college: Oregon) who scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Center Luis Santos (203-94, college: St.Louis) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Antonio Hester (199-90, college: Mobile, AL) produced 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Raphiael Putney (207-90, college: UMass) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Leones and four Reales players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Leones have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 8-5 record having just two points less than leader Metros. Loser Reales keep the seventh position with seven games lost. Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Reales will play against the league's second-placed Caneros (#2) and hope to secure a win.
