We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in La Romana where second-ranked Caneros (8-4) were defeated by third ranked Leones (8-5) 93-89 on Thursday. Leones made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was forward Juan Guerrero (205-93) who scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized American Eddy Polanco (190-94, college: SE Louisiana) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Leones' coach used entire bench in such tough game. American point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: FSU) produced 25 points and 5 assists and the other American import power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) added 20 points respectively for the hosts. Four Caneros players scored in double figures. Leones have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 8-5 record having just two points less than leader Metros. Loser Caneros keep the second position with four games lost. Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Caneros will play against Reales in La Vega and hope to secure a win.
