Regular Season Round 27: Ponce - Fajardo 93-98

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Leones (11-10) lost to fifth ranked Cariduros (10-8) in Juana Diaz 93-98 on Saturday. Cariduros forced 19 Leones turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) who led the winners and scored 27 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American forward Victor Rudd (206-91, college: S.Florida) accounted for 19 points for the winning side. American-Ivorian center Deon Thompson (204-88, college: UNC, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 19 points and 8 rebounds and U.S. Virgin Islands-American power forward Jordan Murphy (200-97, college: Minnesota) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Leones in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Leones' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Cariduros have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains fifth place with 10-8 record. Loser Leones keep the fourth position with ten games lost. Cariduros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Leones will play against Piratas (#3) in Quebradillas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
