Regular Season Round 5: Leones - Huracanes 97-89

Rather predictable result in Santo Domingo where third ranked Leones (8-5) defeated 5th ranked Huracanes (5-7) 97-89 on Saturday. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Juan Guerrero (205-93) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. Swingman LJ Figueroa (198-98, college: Oregon) chipped in 27 points. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Point guard Jaison Valdez (188-95) produced 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and American Tony Criswell (205-92, college: Missouri) added 22 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 8-5 record having just two points less than leader Metros. Loser Huracanes dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Huracanes will play against Titanes (#4) in San Cristobal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
