Regular Season Round 39: Ponce - Arecibo 78-83

An interesting game for Capitanes (21-8) which played road game in Juana Diaz against second-best Leones (17-13). First ranked Capitanes managed to get a 5-point victory 83-78. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Leones. Capitanes made 22-of-23 charity shots (95.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Leones 41-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points and 6 assists. The former international swingman David Huertas (196-87, college: Ole Miss) helped adding 20 points. The best for the losing side was American forward Kenneth Faried (203-89, college: Morehead St., agency: Shark Sports Management) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91, agency: Interperformances) scored 20 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Capitanes maintains first place with 21-8 record. Leones at the other side dropped to the third position with 13 games lost. Capitanes will play against league's leader Vaqueros in Bayamon in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leones will play at home against the league's second-placed Piratas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
