Regular Season Round 7: Santa Ana - Chalchuapa 96-76

Very predictable result when fifth ranked Santa Ana (4-2) rolled over at home bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (0-7) 96-76 on Sunday. Santa Ana dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 26. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 56-34 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santa Ana looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Maurice Taylor (198-94, college: Niagara) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 21 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNCP) accounted for 25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side. Taylor is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Santa Ana players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-87, college: App State) came up with 37 points (!!!), 5 assists and 4 steals and American guard Chad Fortenberry-Miller (201-91, college: MacMurray) added 8 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for Chalchuapa in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santa Ana moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Fantasmas. Chalchuapa lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Santa Ana will meet higher ranked Santa Tecla (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chalchuapa will have a break next round.
