There was no surprise when 4th ranked Obera (1-4) was edged by second ranked La Union (3-2) in Formosa 75-73 on Sunday. Naturalized Spanish guard Jonathan Maldonado (188-90) notched 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and center Fernando Podesta (205-92) supported him with 13 points. La Union's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks by Jamaican power forward Clint Robinson (203-94, college: UIC) did not help to save the game for Obera. The former international point guard Nicolas De los Santos (180-88) added 14 points and 4 assists. Four Obera players scored in double figures. La Union maintains second position with 3-2 record having just one point less than leader San Martin, which they share with Atenas and Quimsa. Loser Obera keeps the fourth place with four games lost. La Union will meet Regatas (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Obera will play against Comunicaciones and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
