Rather predictable result when second ranked San Salvador (12-1) defeated at home 5th ranked Santa Tecla (8-6) 94-83 on Wednesday. San Salvador forced 20 Santa Tecla turnovers. Strangely Santa Tecla outrebounded San Salvador 48-30 including a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Dominican guard Bernardo Polanco (189-94) stepped up and scored 40 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and point guard Salvador Bandek (182-78) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Vincentian center Akeme Smart (218-91, college: McCook CC) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 27 rebounds and point guard Alejandro Arias (188-92) scored 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Five San Salvador and four Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. San Salvador have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-1 record behind leader Aguila. Defending champion Santa Tecla keeps the fifth position with six games lost. San Salvador are looking forward to face Santiagueno (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santa Tecla will have a break next round.
