The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Anzoategui (6-1) in Caracas on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Caribenas (4-4) 78-64. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Caribenas looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Anzoategui's players. Vanessa Sanchez stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and the former international swingman Genesis Rivera (180-96, college: UMass) chipped in 20 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Caribenas' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Waleska Perez (180-94, college: Weatherford JC) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and Yurkia Gallardo scored 20 points and 4 steals. Newly promoted Caribenas maintains second place with 4-4 record having just one point less than leader Anzoategui. Anzoategui at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Caribenas are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Yaracuyanas (#5) in San Felipe in the next round. Anzoategui will play at home against Pastoras de Lara (#4) and is hoping to win this game.
