Regular Season Round 5: Caribenas - Patriotas 74-87

Very significant was Patriotas' (#3, 3-3) victory against second-ranked Caribenas (4-4) 87-74. The former international forward Cynthia Polanco (180-85) nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and the former international point guard Edicta Blanco (168-94) accounted for 25 points and 4 steals. Four Patriotas players scored in double figures. Vanessa Sanchez came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and Ignali Blanco added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Caribenas in the defeat. Caribenas' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Patriotas maintains third place with 3-3 record having four points less than leader Anzoategui. Caribenas at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the second position with four games lost. Patriotas will play against Pastoras de Lara (#4) in Barquisimeto in the next round. Caribenas will play at home against Yaracuyanas and hope to get back on the winning track.
