Regular Season Round 9: San Martin - Penarol 87-79

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Penarol (4-7) lost to sixth ranked San Martin (8-2) in Corrientes 79-87 on Thursday. San Martin outrebounded Penarol 47-25 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rolando Vallejos (195-0) nailed 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Franco Alorda (203-99) accounted for 24 points. San Martin's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Lucas Gorosterrazu (197-98, agency: BIG) came up with 26 points and 6 rebounds and Tomas Cattaneo added 20 points respectively for Penarol in the defeat. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. San Martin have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Penarol keeps the fourteenth position with seven games lost. San Martin will meet at home Gimnasia CR (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Penarol will play against the league's leader Comunicaciones and hope to secure a win.
