Regular Season Round 34: Penarol - Instituto 80-90

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Penarol (23-10) against fourth ranked Instituto (22-13) on Monday night. Host Penarol was defeated by Instituto in Mar del Plata 90-80. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Penarol. They outrebounded Penarol 35-24 including 28 on the defensive glass. Instituto shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international guard Nicolas Romano (200-1987) notched 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and international Martin Cuello (193-1993) supported him with 22 points and 4 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Even 19 points and 6 rebounds by American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) did not help to save the game for Penarol. Bruno Sansimoni (194-1996) added 10 points and 10 assists for lost side. Five Penarol players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Instituto have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 22-13 record. Loser Penarol keeps the third place with ten games lost. Instituto's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Cordoba to the arena Atenas.
