Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Santa Tecla (6-2) outscored at home bottom-ranked Cojute (1-7) 98-77 on Saturday. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Cojute's 34. They outrebounded Cojute 52-28 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Dominican guard Jose Liriano (189-1998) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds. American center Raymond Miller (204-1988, college: CS Fullerton) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds. American swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and forward Nestor Avalos (182-1996) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Cojute lost their fifth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Santa Tecla will meet Aguila (#5) in the next round. Cojute will play against the league's leader San Salvador (#1) and hope to win that game.
