Regular Season Round 11: Aguila - Chalchuapa 131-89

Rather predictable result in San Miguel where sixth ranked Aguila (5-4) smashed 10th ranked Chalchuapa (2-7) 131-89 on Sunday. Aguila dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 52. Aguila forced 22 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 46-30 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. The best player for the winners was Luis Portal (188-1986) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (on 15-of-19 shooting from the field). Cuban Lisvan Valdez (196-1988) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Aguila players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-1987, college: App State) produced 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and American forward Jose Ortiz (190-1990, college: DelVal) added 31 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Aguila. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Chalchuapa keeps the tenth position with seven games lost. Aguila will meet at home higher ranked Santa Tecla (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chalchuapa will have a break next round.
