Regular Season Round 5: Bayamon - Carolina 101-84

There was no surprise in Bayamon where 5th ranked Gigantes (1-4) were defeated by second ranked Vaqueros (3-2) 101-84 on Thursday. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Gigantes' 38. Vaqueros had a 36-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The former international center Ismael Romero (205-1991) stepped up and scored 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and American power forward Dewan Hernandez (211-1997, college: Miami, FL) chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds. Four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. American forward Justin Tillman (203-1996, college: VCU) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import point guard Tremont Waters (180-1998, college: LSU) scored 14 points and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Vaqueros. They maintain second place with 3-2 record having five points less than leader Fajardo. Loser Gigantes dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
