Date: April 21, 2022
The game between closely ranked teams ended with second ranked Piratas' (6-1) home victory over 3rd placed Capitanes (3-3) 94-89 on Thursday. Piratas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international forward Carlos Emory (196-1991) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American Thomas Robinson (208-1991, college: Kansas) chipped in 16 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-1986, college: Florida) responded with 21 points and 7 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and Dominican Victor Liz (193-1986) scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Piratas. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Ponce. Defending champion Capitanes keep the third place with three games lost. Piratas will meet Indios (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Capitanes will play against Atleticos in San German and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
