A very close game took place in Monterrey between Atleticas and Lobas. Sixth ranked Atleticas (10-8) got a very close home victory over 3rd ranked Lobas (13-5). Atleticas managed to escape with a 3-point win 62-59 on Sunday evening. Atleticas outrebounded Lobas 33-21 including 27 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Monica Delgado who scored that evening 15 points and 8 rebounds and Dominican center Yamile Rodriguez (188-1994, college: ETSU) supported her with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Even 18 points by naturalized American guard Mia Castaneda (168-1998, college: Washburn) did not help to save the game for Lobas. The former international swingman Ingrid Martinez (175-1995) added 8 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Lobas' coach Israel Zermeno tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Atleticas maintains sixth position with 10-8 record. Defending champion Lobas keep the third place with five games lost. Atleticas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lobas will play against the league's second-placed Regias and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
