The game between closely ranked teams ended with first ranked Vaqueros' (11-5) home victory over second-ranked Cangrejeros (7-8) in Bayamon 101-98 on Friday. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Cangrejeros' 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Cangrejeros' players. The former international Javier Mojica (189-1984, college: CCSU) notched 25 points, 8 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and the former international center Ismael Romero (205-1991) supported him with 27 points and 8 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). Vaqueros' coach Nelson Colon allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 15 points and 18 rebounds by Mali power forward Cheick Diallo (206-1996, college: Kansas) did not help to save the game for Cangrejeros. The former international guard Isaac Sosa Carrion (191-1990, college: Canisius) added 28 points for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vaqueros maintains first position with 11-5 record. Loser Cangrejeros keep the second place with eight games lost. They share the position with Fajardo. Vaqueros will meet Gigantes (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Cangrejeros will play against Grises (#5) in Humacao and hope to secure a win.
