The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Capitanes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Capitanes defeated 3rd placed Piratas in Arecibo 84-73. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Capitanes made 28-of-33 free shots (84.8 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Piratas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was international forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-1987, college: Campbell) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-1986, college: Florida) chipped in 24 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Four Capitanes players scored in double figures. Capitanes' coach Rafael Cruz used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Jeremy Tyler (208-1991, college: Louisville) produced 18 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized American forward Phillip Wheeler (204-2002) added 18 points respectively for the guests. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Piratas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the second place with nine games lost. They share the position with Ponce. Piratas will play next round against strong Leones trying to get back on the winning streak. Capitanes will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Brujos in Guayama.
