Everything went according to plan when second ranked Piratas (15-10) defeated 5th ranked Gigantes (10-14) in Quebradillas 93-87 on Friday. Piratas made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The winners were led by naturalized American forward Phillip Wheeler (204-2002) who scored that evening 31 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Jamil Wilson (201-1990, college: Marquette) supported him with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Even 19 points and 5 assists by American guard Sheldon McClellan (196-1992, college: Miami, FL, agency: Slash Sports) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. The former international center George Conditt IV (208-2000, college: Iowa St.) added 16 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Five Piratas and four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Piratas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-10 record having just one point less than leader Ponce, which they share with Arecibo. Loser Gigantes keep the fifth place with 14 games lost. Piratas will meet Indios (#4) in the next round. Gigantes will play against Cariduros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
