Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Santo Domingo: Soles (#4) and Leones (#3). Leones were defeated at home 84-93 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It was a good game for naturalized American Gerardo Suero (196-1989, college: Albany) who led his team to a victory with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. American-German forward Waverly Austin (211-1991, college: Oregon) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Soles players scored in double figures. Juan Guerrero (205-1993) replied with 22 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Kelechi Ajukwa (201-1995, college: Charlotte) added 16 points in the effort for Leones. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Soles (7-5) keep a position of league leader, which they share with Indios. Defending champion Leones keep the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Titanes. Soles will play against Marineros (#7) in Puerto Plata in the next round where they are favorite. Leones will have a break next round.
