The game between closely ranked teams ended with second-ranked Leones' (18-14) road loss to first ranked Capitanes (21-10) 79-109 on Monday. Capitanes dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Leones' 26. They outrebounded Leones 45-29 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Leones' players. Naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-1986, college: Florida) had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Mexican center Gustavo Ayon (207-1985, college: SJSU, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 7 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. American-South Sudanese Nuni Omot (206-1994, college: Baylor) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) scored 8 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Capitanes have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 21-10 record. Loser Leones keep the second place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Santurce.
