Bottom-ranked Occidentales managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of five consecutive losses. This time they edged ninth-ranked Rivas 91-89. Occidentales forced 26 Rivas turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including 23 on the offensive glass. Guard Deikel Sanchez orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds. Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) contributed with 28 points and 6 steals for the winners. American Quentin Davis (199, college: Mendocino CC) answered with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals and the other American import forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) added 29 points in the effort for Rivas. Four Rivas players scored in double figures. Rivas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Occidentales (2-8) moved-up to ninth place. Rivas at the other side dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost.
