Very expected game when 7th ranked Leon (3-7) lost on the road to third ranked UNI Basket (7-4) 88-83 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. UNI Basket forced 21 Leon turnovers. Strangely Leon outrebounded UNI Basket 60-31 including a 39-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) who scored that evening 30 points and 4 steals and the former international guard Vansdell Thomas (185-1986) supported him with 16 points and 10 rebounds. UNI Basket's coach Luis Morales used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds by American power forward Zacarry Douglas (203-1995, college: NCCU) did not help to save the game for Leon. American-Panamanian Adalberto Rojas (200-1986) added 17 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Leon players scored in double figures. UNI Basket have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 7-4 record having six points less than leader Real Esteli. Loser Leon keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. They share the position with Indigenas.
