Regular Season Round 9: Capitalinas - Bucaneras 79-75

There was no surprise when 3rd placed Bucaneras (3-5) were defeated on the road by first ranked Capitalinas (7-1) 79-75 on Sunday. Capitalinas outrebounded Bucaneras 53-32 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Cynthia Polanco (180-1985) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 18 rebounds. Point guard Fabiana Garcia (169-2006) chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Yurkia Gallardo (-1991) who recorded 20 points and 8 assists and the former international swingman Jofranny Guerra (-1988) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Capitalinas have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Newly promoted Capitalinas maintains first place with 7-1 record. Loser Bucaneras dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Capitalinas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Bucaneras will play against the league's second-placed Cayenas (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
