Regular Season Round 13: Cojute - Santa Tecla 96-108

Rather predictable result in Cojutepeque where third ranked Santa Tecla (13-4) beat 6th ranked Cojute (8-7) 108-96 on Saturday. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Cojute's 42. Santa Tecla forced 21 Cojute turnovers and outrebounded them 42-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American Cameron Lard (206-1997, college: Iowa St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and Dominican Ezequiel Perez (201) chipped in 21 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. Five Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) responded with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 5 assists and Lee Vasquez (176-1991) scored 37 points (!!!) and 6 assists (made all of his eight free throws). The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Santa Tecla. They maintain third place with 13-4 record having just three points less than leader Quezaltepeque. Loser Cojute keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Santa Tecla will meet league's second-placed Aguila in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Cojute will play against Brujos (#10) and hope to secure a win.
