Regular Season Round 13: Brujos - Metapan 87-99

There was no surprise in Izalco where 9th ranked Brujos (3-6) were defeated by fifth ranked Metapan (11-5) 99-87 on Sunday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Metapan made 17 blocks. Puerto Rican Xavier Zambrana (193-1991) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks for the winners and American-Puerto Rican forward Derek Reese (203-1993, college: Tennessee) chipped in 12 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Metapan players scored in double figures. Metapan's coach Augusto Gomez used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Arinze Obiora (196-1997, college: UMass Dartmouth) responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 18 rebounds and Joshua Quincy produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds. Metapan moved-up to fourth place. Loser Brujos dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Metapan will meet Nejapa (#7) on the road in the next round. Brujos will play against Cojute in Cojutepeque and hope to secure a win.
