Everything went according to plan when second ranked Quezaltepeque (15-3) outleveled at home 8th ranked Santiagueno (4-12) 86-66 on Sunday. Quezaltepeque dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Santiagueno's 32. They outrebounded Santiagueno 66-35 including a 25-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and American center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) chipped in 16 points and 19 rebounds. Quezaltepeque's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-1987, college: App State) responded with 20 points and 6 assists and American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Quezaltepeque. They keep a position of league leader. Loser Santiagueno keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost. Quezaltepeque will meet Brujos (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
