Regular Season Round 3: Penarol - Flamengo 67-94
Date: December 14, 2022
There was a minor upset in Montevideo where Uruguayan Penarol (1-0) was crushed by Brazilian Flamengo (1-1) 94-67 on Wednesday. Flamengo outrebounded Penarol 37-22 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Penarol's players. It was a great evening for Spanish-Brazilian center Rafael Hettsheimeir (210-1986) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 9 rebounds. American-Mexican guard Luke Martinez (190-1990, college: Wyoming, agency: Pro Sports) helped adding 17 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American power forward Charles Thomas (202-1986, college: Arkansas) with 12 points and guard Juan Zanotta (185-1995) scored 6 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Flamengo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Penarol will play against Instituto in Cordoba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
