Regular Season Round 4: Flamengo - Penarol 103-47
Date: January 13, 2023
The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Brazilian Flamengo as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Flamengo smashed their biggest opponent Uruguayan Penarol in Rio de Janeiro 103-47. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Flamengo outrebounded Penarol 50-21 including a 17-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Penarol's players. Worth to mention a great performance of Gabriel Galvanini (202-1998) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Mexican guard Luke Martinez (190-1990, college: Wyoming, agency: Pro Sports) contributed with 23 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Flamengo players scored in double figures. Italian-Uruguayan Nicolas Borsellino (202-1986, agency: Pro Sports) replied with 6 points and American guard Rodney Green (197-1988, college: La Salle) added 7 points in the effort for Penarol. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with defeated Penarol. Penarol will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Flamengo will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Instituto in Cordoba.
