The game between closely ranked teams ended with second ranked Brazilian Minas' (3-3) road victory over 3rd placed Uruguayan Bigua (1-5) in Montevideo 111-73 on Sunday. Minas shot 62.7 percent from the field. Minas outrebounded Bigua 42-19 including a 37-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 20 long-distance shots on high 54.1 percentage. Minas looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Bigua's players. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Shaquille Johnson (191-1990, college: Marshall) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 7 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Wesley Ferreira (200-1995) accounted for 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Minas players scored in double figures. Brazilian center Luis Santos (194-1994) came up with 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and forward Martin Rojas (195-1998) added 10 points respectively for Bigua in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Minas maintains second place with 3-3 record having just two point less than leader Sesi Franca. Defending Uruguayan champion Bigua keeps the third position with five games lost. They share it with Obras. Minas will meet league's leader Quimsa in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bigua will have a break next round.
