Regular Season Round 4: Santiagueno - Santa Tecla 44-85
Date: March 19, 2023
The game in Usultan supposed to be also quite interesting. Top-ranked Santa Tecla (2-0) played at the court of 5th ranked Santiagueno (1-2). Santa Tecla smashed Santiagueno 85-44 on Sunday. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Santiagueno's 24. Santa Tecla forced 26 Santiagueno turnovers and outrebounded them 50-30 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santa Tecla looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Santiagueno's players. The winners were led by Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 19 rebounds and Dominican Darwin Cabrera supported him with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 9 points and 7 rebounds by American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) did not help to save the game for Santiagueno. Santiago Esperanza (185-1993) added 10 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santa Tecla moved-up to second place, which they share with Metapan. Loser Santiagueno dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams.
