Regular Season Round 18: Ancud - Las Animas 84-80
Date: March 26, 2023
Very expected game when 8th ranked Las Animas (10-8) were defeated on the road by third ranked Ancud (12-5) 84-80 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Ancud made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Las Animas turnovers. American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) scored 27 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Ancud's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists and Argentinian guard Christian Schoppler (185-1986) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ancud maintains third position with 12-5 record having five points less than leader Concepcion. Loser Las Animas dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Valdivia. Ancud will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Las Animas will play against the league's second-placed Los Leones (#2) and hope to secure a win.
