The game between closely ranked teams ended with first ranked Piratas' (10-3) road victory over second-ranked Gigantes (6-6) in Carolina 84-79 on Wednesday. Piratas outrebounded Gigantes 43-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. The former international guard Tyquan Rolon (192-1995, college: LeMoyne) notched 24 points and 7 assists to lead the effort and American center Hassan Whiteside (213-1989, college: Marshall) supported him with 13 points and 19 rebounds. Even 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists by American Victor Rudd (206-1991, college: S.Florida) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. His fellow American import Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville) added 17 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Four Piratas and five Gigantes players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Piratas maintains first position with 10-3 record. Loser Gigantes dropped to the third place with six games lost. Piratas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gigantes will play against Leones and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
