Fifth-ranked Mets (6-9) gave a tough game to second ranked Atleticos (10-5) in San German on Wednesday. Atleticos managed to secure only three-point victory 75-72. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Mets. Atleticos had a 43-32 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Atleticos made 7 blocks. The former international forward Jose Rodriguez (201-1992, college: Texas Southern) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Jorge Bryan Diaz (210-1989, college: Nebraska) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Atleticos' coach Manuel Cintron used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Jaysean Paige (188-1994, college: WVU) with 24 points and 8 rebounds and American swingman Onzie Branch (201-1991, college: Gardner-Webb) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Five Atleticos and four Mets players scored in double figures. Atleticos maintains second position with 10-5 record having just one point less than leader Quebradillas. Mets at the other side keep the fifth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Ponce. Atleticos are looking forward to face Capitanes (#3) in Arecibo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mets will play on the road against Cariduros in Fajardo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
