Regular Season Round 1: Leones - Indios 62-71

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Santo Domingo where Leones were defeated by Indios 71-62 on Tuesday. Indios forced 19 Leones turnovers. American power forward Sterling Manley (211-1998, college: UNC) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Carlbe Ervin II (190-1995, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Ervin II is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Indios players scored in double figures. At the losing side American Nick Faust (198-1993, college: LBSU) responded with 18 points and forward Jean Quezada produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Indios will meet at home Reales in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leones will play against Caneros in La Romana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
