The game between closely ranked teams ended with first ranked Piratas' (18-6) home victory over second-best Cangrejeros (14-11) 118-92 on Sunday. Piratas dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Cangrejeros' 40 and made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Cangrejeros 49-25 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Piratas looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Piratas made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was American guard Brandon Knight (190-1991, college: Kentucky) who scored 35 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. The other American import center Hassan Whiteside (213-1989, college: Marshall) chipped in a double-double by scoring 25 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Angel Matias (194-1992, college: Georgia South) who recorded 18 points and the former international guard Alfonso Plummer (185-1997, college: Illinois) added 18 points respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Piratas maintains first position with 18-6 record. Loser Cangrejeros dropped to the third place with 11 games lost. Piratas will meet at home Grises (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Cangrejeros will play against Leones in Juana Diaz and hope to secure a win.
