We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when one of their biggest challengers Indios (14-18) lost to fifth ranked Leones (11-19) in Juana Diaz 88-94 on Friday. Leones made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by naturalized Nicaraguan swingman Jared Ruiz (188-1992) who scored that evening 22 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 16 points and 7 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Even 25 points by the former international guard Jorge Pacheco-Ortiz (186-1998, college: Liberty) did not help to save the game for Indios. American forward Jeremy Tyler (208-1991, college: Louisville) added 19 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Leones have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 11-19 record. Loser Indios keep the fourth place with 18 games lost. Leones will meet at home higher ranked Gigantes (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Indios will play against Cangrejeros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
