Cangrejeras dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Lares' 38. They outrebounded Lares 56-31 including a 21-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American center Akela Maize (196-1996, college: NC State) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds. International guard Brianna Jones (177-1997, college: Georgetown, agency: Shark Sports Management) accounted for 28 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Cangrejeras' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Alex Mcdonald came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Mykea Gray (163-1998, college: Miami, FL) added 21 points respectively for Lares in the defeat. Cangrejeras will meet Hatillo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lares will play against Moca (#3) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
