The game in Matagalpa was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Leon (14-6) played at the court of 7th ranked Indigenas (6-14). Leon defeated Indigenas 88-73 on Thursday. Leon dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Indigenas' 34 and had 24 for 34 from the free-throw line, while Indigenas only scored three points from the stripe. They outrebounded Indigenas 48-32 including 33 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) who scored 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Dominican Miguel Almonte (200-1991) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Canadian swingman Zekiah Owens (197-1998, college: AIC) who recorded 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and American guard Tylan Dean (185-1999, college: Rogers St.) added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Leon have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Indigenas keep the seventh position with 14 games lost. Leon will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Indigenas will play against the league's leader Caribbean Coast (#1) in Managua and hope to secure a win.
