There was a small surprise in Juana Diaz where fifth rankedLeones (15-18) beat their close opponent Indios (15-18) 93-85 on Thursday. Ponce made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Ponce outrebounded Mayaguez 40-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. The former international point guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) scored 27 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Bryon Allen (192-1992, college: GMU) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists during the contest. Four Leones players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Michael Young (206-1994, college: Pittsburgh) with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import forward Cameron McGriff (201-1997, college: OK State) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Ponce moved-up to third place, which they share with Aguada and Mayaguez. Mayaguez lost sixth consecutive game.
