Experienced Dominican Rep. Luis Montero (203-SF-1993) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Minas Belo Horizonte and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1.
The 31-year old had the game-high 17 points adding eight rebounds and three assists for Minas in his team's victory, helping them to beat Bigua (#2, 1-1) 73-60. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Minas to consolidate first place in the Basketball Champions League Americas. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Minas won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Montero had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range. He turned to be Minas' top player in his first season with the team. South Plains College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Montero is in league's top in points (2nd best: 17.0ppg), rebounds (4th best: 8.0rpg), assists (5th best: 3.0apg) and averages solid 57.1% FGP and 100.0% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young Bahamas center Tavario Miller (203-C-1994) of Quimsa Santiago del Estero. Miller impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Quimsa was edged by Bigua (1-1) 72-70. The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Miller is a newcomer at Quimsa and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 12.0ppg (#5). He also registered 15.0 boards per game. Texas A&M University alumni Miller played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.

The third best performed player last round was another Quimsa's star - Nicolas Romano (200-G-1987). Romano scored 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Despite Romano's great performance the Quimsa Santiago del Estero lost 70-72 to #2 ranked Bigua. But his team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The season just started for Romano as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be another team's leader.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Leandro Cerminato (201-PF-1998) of Bigua - 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Scott Machado (185-G-1990) of Minas - 12 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Andre Spight (191-G-1995) of Bigua - 13 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists
7. Juan Ducasse (208-F-1998) of Bigua - 12 points and 5 rebounds
8. Jeremy Hollowell (203-SF-1994) of Minas - 13 points and 5 rebounds
9. Maique Tavares (211-C-1993) of Bigua - 14 points and 5 rebounds
10. Danilo Fuzaro (193-G-1994) of Minas - 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
