Nigel Jones
American Forward Nigel Jones (200-F-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Belize City D., receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 27-year old player was the main contributor (27 points, eight rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to crush Smart Belize H. (#4, 3-3) with 18-point margin 85-67. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Belize City D. maintains the 3rd position in Belizean NEBL. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Belize City D. will need more victories to improve their 4-2 record. In the team's last game Jones had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Belize City D., being already a very valuable addition to the team. Former Talladega College star has very solid stats this year. Jones is league's best scorer averaging so far 24.0ppg. Jones is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 9.7rpg) and averages impressive 1.5bpg,57.1% FGP and 43.5% from behind 3-point line. Worth to mention Jones played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second best player in last round's games was 33-year old former international forward Richard Troyer (196-F-84) of Verdes. Troyer had a very good evening with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Verdes lost that game 68-92 to the higher-ranked San Pedro T. (#1, 8-1). Verdes is still second from the bottom in the standings. 5 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Verdes managed to get this year. Troyer is one of the most experienced players at Verdes and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.3ppg (#4). He also registered 11.0 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was international forward Brian White (196-PF-95) of Smart Belize H. (#4). White scored 15 points and grabbed fourteen rebounds (!!!). Despite White's great performance Smart Belize H. lost 67-85 to #3 ranked Belize City D.. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Smart Belize H. needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 3 victories and 3 lost games. White has a great season in Belize. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.5rpg (6th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tyson Reynold (205-C-92) of Smart Belize H. - 12 points and 9 rebounds
5. James Ewing (198-C-90) of Orange Walk RR - 17 points and 6 rebounds
6. Edgar Mitchell (G) of Dream Ballers - 20 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Gene Myvett (193-F-82) of Verdes - 8 points and 7 rebounds
8. Daniel Nolberto (G) of Dream Ballers - 21 points and 4 rebounds
9. Jamal Kelly (G-90) of San Pedro T. - 17 points and 6 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

The Player of the Week awards are presented by Interperformances. Interperformances is a full-service agency specializing in the representation of professional athletes the world-over. Here is the last round review presented by ESL. The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Belize City: Hurricanes (#4) and Running Rebels (#7). Running Rebels were crushed at home by 16 points 72-88 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Hurricanes outrebounded Running Rebels 35-21 including 24 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American point guard Tyrie Orosco (196, college: Cent.Penn) who had a double-double by sc...   [read more]
